It seems that deer season always seems to go by so fast. And this season is almost over. So instead of doing last minute shopping I’ll be outdoors hunting.

Nothing like a little last minute whitetail action. My lovely wife did almost all of the shopping this year, and I sure am glad. I would rather be outdoors hunting any day than to be at any store I can think of. Except Bass Pro Shop and this time of year I’d just as soon stay away from there. Although, I hope I get a Pass pro gift card I need some new outdoors hunting gear.

I hope everyone has had a great deer season. Mine has been very good, I was fortunate enough to harvest a big 10 pointer on a bow hunt in Illinois. So everything else is just icing on the cake. I’m planning on getting a few more trips to the woods before the end of deer season.

I have been able to do quite a bit of deer hunting this year, and I have seen a ton of deer. I got to see bucks chasing does and was able to rattle in the whitetail in Illinois. It was like I was dreaming. I couldn’t believe I was bow hunting in Illinois, and to harvest a trophy whitetail on the last day of the hunt it was just beautiful! All of the practice and preparation paid off, I spent a lot of summer evenings shooting my bow off of the back deck. And after a few thousand mosquito bites and all that practice I was able to pull it off. Man that is a memory I won’t ever forget. The weather didn’t cooperate until the last day and when it turned cold the big bucks hit full throttle. It was like someone flipped a switch. The big boy is at the taxidermist and I can’t wait to see the mount.

Our Pro-staff buddies Brad and Jay are on a hunt in Monroe county and hopefully they will get some good footage to share with us. It is extremely cold here, Brad said it was 10 degrees this morning. So hopefully the deer will be moving and they will get some good late season footage. I plan on going hunting tomorrow and see if I can catch a big buck heading to or from the food plots. This time of year the deer really need the nutrition to survive the cold winter. I will be taking my bow and my rifle and hope to get a whitetail with my bow on film. But if he doesn’t come into bow range I’ll have my rifle waiting.

Brad sent me some pictures of a hog he killed in Bibb county hog hunting with his bow. I have never taken a hog with a bow but it sure sounds like fun. It’s been a while since I’ve been hog hunting.

We used to hunt a lease in Dooley county and man that was some good hog hunting. I bet that will be some good eating.
